Decisions to isolate

Decisions to isolate

Well I canceled my therapy until further notice. After my blogs last week Not liking physical therapy PT like it or not…, you’d think I’d be happy making this decision but I really wasn’t. I’m not trying to be overly dramatic about the Coronavirus but I am trying to be smart. In therapy I can name fifty surfaces or more I touch that someone else has touch seconds before. They do not sanitize every surface in between patients. It is impossible for them to do so. At any given time there is 5-10 people in the gym. I can’t control the environment. I thought about wearing gloves and a mask and all of that but I think that is still pushing it. Plus I believe it would be difficult to do occupational therapy with gloves on.

Then there is mahjong. I still don’t know what to do about that. I am definitely not going to the temple to play. I want to avoid public places. However, they offered to play by me in our community room. I could at least control the space. I could make sure to wipe down the tables, the mahjong tiles and everyone’s hands. There I could wear the gloves and mask. I am giving it a trial run in my game today with the girls in my condo. This is a slower game and we don’t play as long. I will make a decision from there.

It is upsetting that I need to isolate myself but truth is my personal risk is higher if I contract the virus than normal people. Rituxan makes biggest side effect are increased chances of respiratory infection. As it is I can’t cough with enough power to move mucus out of my lung on a good day because of weakened muscles. I’m always afraid to get bronchitis let alone the coronavirus. I need to be safe because for me, there can’t be an oops.

  1. I’m actually glad to hear you say you’re going into isolation. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing since the end of February. I know getting this viral infection on top of MS and heart failure would be a death sentence. I’m supposed to go see my neurologist this Wednesday, and have a cardiac MRI on the 28th, but I’m not sure I want to go to either now. There are active cases of Covid-19 in my area now. Scary times!

Just stay home and order as much stuff online as you can. That’s what I’m doing. Stay safe, Jamie.

    1. It wasn’t a happy decision but there are confirmed cases a town away from my parents. The same town where my aid lives. It is 10 minutes from my home. Just too close too home. You can’t have an oops on this.
You either….being in isolation seems to be the safest place. I have another blog on this topic tomorrow. It’s scary and that’s why I’m so upset
