Buzzing noise in my ears

Buzzing noise in my ears

I’ve realized something over the last few months, I never have quiet. My ears always have what I can only describe as a buzzing sound in them. I know, sounds like tinnitus, but it’s not ringing. Not only is it it not ringing, I hear fine, it doesn’t bother me or throw me off balance and it isn’t loud or annoying. I’ve just noticed the sound is always there. I’m not sure when I started noticing it but I know it’s been a while now. I just never wrote about because I truthfully forget. There is always some other noise like the heat running or my TV on.

I keep thinking back to a post I wrote about a quiet Saturday morning A peaceful weekend and how still everything was as I wrote this post. It was so quiet in the house. I didn’t have the heat on and no one was up so there was no other competing noise. This “buzzing” would have been in my ears but it obviously didn’t bother me at all. I don’t know if this is tinnitus. I never even mentioned it to either of my neurologist. Like I said I forget about it most of the time. Right now my aid has my washing machine on and my heat is in so I wouldn’t notice any “buzzing”. That’s why I forget. It is at night that I remember. Usually when I’m getting up to use the bathroom. When I get back in bed I turn the TV on again. It isn’t a loud sound just a constant sound. ??‍♀️I don’t know maybe MS maybe not.

I did find that is was a rare symptom for MS. Fewer than 5% of people experience this symptom. That made me feel better. I also read this:

The American Tinnitus Association (ATA) describes the symptoms as: “the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present. While it is commonly referred to as ‘ringing in the ears’, tinnitus can manifest many different perceptions of sound, including buzzing, hissing, whistling, swooshing, and clicking. In some rare cases, tinnitus patients report hearing music.”

Hmmmm I have buzzing.

hearing loss (with or without ringing in the ears) may signal an MS relapse.1 Like other MS-related symptoms, these problems occur due to nerve damage in the brain.

any new hearing-related symptom needs to be thoroughly evaluated to rule out non-MS-related causes, such as an accumulation of ear wax, noise- or medication-related hearing loss, and inner ear disease, among others. https://www.verywellhealth.com/hearing-problems-and-multiple-sclerosis-2440785

Well there you go, might be ear wax build up or even my 9 other medication I take. Like I said it doesn’t have any impact on me, it has been just something I’ve noticed. Keep in mind I have a child who is deaf with. Cochlear Implants. She has complete silence when she takes her implants off. She can’t hear anything. It is just something I think about often.

  1. Thank you for your post. I too have a light buzzing sound in my ears all the time. Now that I know it’s probably coming from my MS I won’t worry about it anymore.
