Saturday morning multiple sclerosis week in review

Saturday morning multiple sclerosis week in review

Good morning. I first have to say what a beautiful day in New York. The sun is bright shining into my house spreading love and happiness throughout. Yesterday my daughter received an email from Lynn University that she was accepted to the college with a Dean’s scholarship. It was so exciting for everyone in my family but it was also so reassuring for her. This college is in Florida and it would be my first choice for her. It is…

Brake hold great feature for MS drivers

Brake hold great feature for MS drivers

Happy Friday. The end to a very long week.  This week knocked me out. Not that it takes much to do these days but this one was a doozy. Im about to wake my little sleeping cherub up because we have to head into the city.  She received a new cochlear implant upgrade and her audiologist is in NYC.  The trip in will hopefully not take more than an hour.  I’m praying for a lighter traffic day due to the…

What will happen to health insurance now?

What will happen to health insurance now?

Started physical therapy this week. Last time I did physical therapy for my multiple sclerosis was during my very first attack almost 19 years ago. Why? Insurance co-pays.  I could never afford the co-pay to go to physical therapy twice a week, hell I couldn’t afford the co-pay once a week.  I was working full time and was getting buried by my co-pay medical bills.  I have multiple sclerosis so of course all my doctors are specialists which had the…

From powerless feelings to grateful feelings

From powerless feelings to grateful feelings

My poor daughter she gets the backlash of my mood swings so often.  I woke up today on the wrong side of the bed.  It wasn’t even because I knew the outcome of our next president either. I would never go online, check emails or even pick up my iPad before reading my course of miracle workbook. I just had a bad nights sleep and I was cranky. Being that I was up most of the night, I know my…

A life with disabilities-my daughter’s college essay

A life with disabilities-my daughter’s college essay

My mother tells the story of when I was two and she walked into Tutor Time. The door opened and every child’s head turned but mine. That led to the diagnosis that would affect my entire life. We found out I had a progressive hearing loss called EVA (enlarged vestibular aqueduct) and when my mother walked through that door, I had already lost all the high frequencies in my hearing. I received the first of two surgeries for my cochlear…

My four walls of multiple sclerosis

My four walls of multiple sclerosis

I always wondered what is going on in boomers mind when he looks outside.  Boomer doesn’t get up and go outside easily you have to convince him so what is he thinking when he gazes? I’ve noticed lately  I too have been glancing out my big window but I know what’s going on inside my mind. My life has become my apartment. The four walls of my home. As my MS has become worse I tend to stay home more…

Did we met because of fate or was it free will?

Did we met because of fate or was it free will?

Do you believe people come into your life haphazardly or that there is an actual reason? Do you believe in fate or destiny? Do you think life has a purpose some higher meaning or that things are just random occurrences? Do you believe the universe has a master plan? I’ve been a believer in fate my whole life. I’ve had to many meetings  in my life where the time and place I met someone so many random things happened got…

A true dog lover

A true dog lover

There are so many things in my life I am truly grateful for and I can dedicate numerous posts to each of them. Today I want to talk about the ones that can never read my post. I actually started with cats. My first apartment didn’t allow dogs. Each fight my ex-husband and I had resulted in another cat. My dad, who always owned dogs, used to say “you’re a dog person”. I started pushing to get a dog as…

The plant based diet and multiple sclerosis

The plant based diet and multiple sclerosis

A plant based diet is a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes; and it excludes or minimizes meat (including chicken and fish), dairy products, and eggs, as well as highly refined foods like bleached flour, refined sugar, and oil. A 2013 Nutritional Update for Physicians stated, “Healthy eating may be best achieved with a plant-based diet, which we define as a regimen that encourages whole, plant-based foods and discourages meats, dairy products, and eggs as well as…
