Occupational therapy vs Physical Therapy

Occupational therapy vs Physical Therapy

Happy hump day. Another day, another week. This week was a little different for me because my daughter is home for a visit. I love having her home. I love her energy in the house. I love how she climbs into my bed when she wakes up and is always in my bed before I go to sleep. I miss her when she leaves until I get use to her being gone again. Right now I get to enjoy her…

Vagus Nerve research in Multiple Sclerosis

Vagus Nerve research in Multiple Sclerosis

Ok a new MS research blog brought to my attention by my dad yesterday. It has to do with the Vagus Nerve (pronounced like Las Vegas). The vagus is a major nerve that runs throughout the body and controls crucial functions, like heart function and blood pressure, digestion, breathing and immune response. It also conveys sensory information to the brain about the current status of internal organs; a process termed interoception. The vagus nerve is a major therapeutic target for…

Inside my room of quiet

Inside my room of quiet

I am going to attempt to play mahjong today with the girls. This will be my first time since December. I am looking forward to playing. I also hope I can play. It would be a shame if I am still too weak to play. I have had enough reminders as to where I am today as opposed to where I was. Mahjong is my favorite and I really don’t want to be discouraged by something else. I put off…

Missing my companions

Missing my companions

I had a really good final physical therapy session on Monday. I walked further than I walked all this year. Where I am walking to, I don’t know. I have come a long way since coming home from the hospital. Still not where I was. I think some of the disability changes I can live with easily. Some are demoralizing and as an 50 year old woman, they came to fast. Multiple sclerosis is not an easy disease. I’m not…

Processing Feelings

Processing Feelings

I have to say I feel sad. I didn’t want to do much this weekend. I didn’t really want to talk much this weekend. I kind of wanted to hide away. My uncle’s death, my friend’s son, my friend’s sister, it all happened within two weeks of each other. So much sadness. I was so sad for my friends but my uncle hit me really hard. I didn’t want to talk about it the other blog because I wanted to…

Goodbye to my Uncle

Goodbye to my Uncle

I am writing this blog with a very heavy heart. My uncle passed away early Wednesday morning. He was hospitalized a few weeks ago with a pneumonia, UTI and kidney infection. Sound familiar? https://multipleexperiences.org/2022/03/04/multiple-sclerosis-vs-pneumonia/ My uncle also had Parkinson’s disease. MS and Parkinson’s seem to always be grouped together. Why??? MS and Parkinson’s both affect your central nervous system, which includes your brain and spinal cord. That’s why they both can affect how you move, sleep, feel, and talk. These diseases both affect your nerves….

A brave return to my bed

A brave return to my bed

I finally started to feel like I had some sense of sanity return this Sunday. This bedbug situation has certainly been extremely stressful. The house was fumigated on Friday. I spent the morning organizing the last of the packing up of the house. Exhaustion hit me by the time I finished cleaning out the first draw. I mean like really hit me. Fatigue times 100. I was just starting what I knew was going to be a long day. I…

Bedbugs…not Hives

Bedbugs…not Hives

I woke up scathing my hives as normal last night. This time I saw a small bug on my humpty’s head. It was about 12:30 am. As I crushed the sucker it made a blood spot. Something didn’t seem right when i saw that bug. I picked up my phone and google bedbugs. Could my hives be bedbugs? Yes, for the first time, in my months of scratching, I wondered maybe I have bedbugs. I started googling which caused me…

Getting a new caseworker

Getting a new caseworker

I haven’t slept in three nights because of the fireworks. My poor Minx gets so worked up from the noise. I even gave him medication. With every explosion outside came a round of barking from the inside. Therefore when the idiots were still setting things off at 1am, my Minxy was barking like crazy. It is difficult to sleep through that. I thought to myself, ok, I’ll wake up, workout and nap this afternoon. I did my workout, which was…

Fireworks tips when you have dogs

Fireworks tips when you have dogs

Happy 4th of July to everyone. It’s a beautiful day and everyone is probably thinking about BBQ and fireworks, I’m thinking about my dog, Boomer, who passed away in December. He hated this holiday and I always wanted to stay near him because of his reaction to the noise.  My 70lb English Bulldog would jump in my lap, cowering, crying and shaking. Some years we even tried to give him treats or meds that would calm him down, nothing worked….
