The mental progression of assistive devices

The mental progression of assistive devices

This is so follow up or maybe part 2 of yesterday’s post. I’ve listen to many people and read many blogs that discuss the need for assistance devices and how they “aren’t ready”. A huge part of the progression of multiple sclerosis chips away at your personal independence. It’s a stage of the disease that affects the ego and the perception of normal or healthy. It’s when we start to look different from everyone else. When we can’t hide the…

The good days verses the bad days

The good days verses the bad days

I was asked today by my physical therapist how are you? I am sure anyone with a chronic disease thinks this is a loaded question. Actually a good friend of mine called me the other day and said, “I’ve learned so much about you and what you deal with on a daily basis from reading your blog. I never knew. Some of it makes me laugh, some makes me feel so bad that I can’t help you, but I never…

The helping hand when you have a chronic condition

The helping hand when you have a chronic condition

A few months ago  there was this sound this clanking sound coming from the refrigerator. I must say I can follow directions put things together, tighten things when they seem loose, make minor repairs but major breakdowns, I’m not your girl. When I heard the clanking I knew it was the compressor or something, but that’s about it. I lowered the temperature of the refrigerator from 5 to 0 for a few minutes turned it back up and sound was…

This sh$t ain’t easy

This sh$t ain’t easy

let’s be real here, if things were going well, I’d still be working. I’d go to work everyday, be around different people, be challenged, strive to be the best and probably be like 76% of the world, stressed out. However, I’m not well, I’m not stressed out like the 76% but my life isn’t easy.  I love the look I still get from some people when I tell them I don’t work anymore. You can see their mind questioning you…

Life goes on…

Life goes on…

Well the little puppy makes life coordination much more difficult. Now on school days if I want to workout alarm is set for 5:45. Daughter gets puppy from that time until 6:30. I get 45 minutes to myself to workout, brush teeth, get coffee and pee basically. Then I take puppy so she can finish getting ready for school. Yes I could put her back in her crate, I know that. The reason I don’t is because most of my…

Life goes back to normal

Life goes back to normal

I’ve never been so excited to set my alarm for 6 o’clock in the morning. These last couple of weeks have been a series of emotions that have worn me down. There of been good, there of been awful, but it just wore me out. I know most of you don’t know me, other than what you read, but I haven’t worked out in two weeks. I can’t tell you a time in over six years where I have it worked…

The multiple sclerosis attack that pushed me over

The multiple sclerosis attack that pushed me over

I was starting to “leak through” my current multiple sclerosis therapy back in 2014. I had been on basically Betaseron most of the time until I switched to Gilyenya in 2010. I was switched for the “leaking through” thought. It was holding me on the relapsing remitting sides mostly. I’d have maybe one or two per year on all the drugs. However I would worsen without a so-called attack. My current symptoms would worsen. Back in 2014 the decision was…

My Vitamin D too low for MS

My Vitamin D too low for MS

I’m in my doctors office right now. My regular doctor this time. I had to repeat blood work from 3 months ago. In that blood test my cholesterol was higher than normal and my Vitamin D was too low. Vitamin D in a patient with multiple sclerosis. This is probably the one link they are certain of with multiple sclerosis is Vitamin D and how that is important. If you don’t know to name a few cases… A study conducted…

Not the happiest Friday in the home

Not the happiest Friday in the home

I FINALLY had my shoulder checked out by an orthopedist yesterday. He did some maneuvering, X-rays and a visual exam. He told me “there are actually 2 problems going on.” Of course there are, because nothing is simple. “You have tendinitis in the shoulder for sure but your back also is showing arthritis”.  More of the fabulous news. I had junior arthritis as a kid, arthritis is my knees with cysts and now in the back. Ok great now what?…

And what exactly should I do?

And what exactly should I do?

i wanted to go to the specialty grocery store, pick up some plant-based items I couldn’t find at the local store.  It’s not a very large store, easy parking, I thought I’d be ok.  I had 2 small bags with light stuff. I made it to the car, just had to get in my house. Car to house what 20 steps. 6 steps to first landing until I can regret the chair lift. Yet another task that completely exhausted me…
