A true dog lover

A true dog lover

There are so many things in my life I am truly grateful for and I can dedicate numerous posts to each of them. Today I want to talk about the ones that can never read my post. I actually started with cats. My first apartment didn’t allow dogs. Each fight my ex-husband and I had resulted in another cat. My dad, who always owned dogs, used to say “you’re a dog person”. I started pushing to get a dog as soon as we moved from my apartment. Then one day we decided to take my daughter to see 8 below. That is the story of the 8 dog sled team left behind in an Arctic Storm to survive on their own.  Well the lunatic I was cried until it was agreed I can have a dog. I can’t take any movie, picture or story that is sad for animals. After a lot of research we ended up choosing my English Bulldog Boomer. Three years and one divorce later later we purchased my French Bulldog Marshmellow (we spell his name with an E).

Now I understand  not all people are animal lovers. My mother actually is one of those people. The only animal I ever had growing up was fish. Not a very interactive kind of pet. But for me  i’ve always loved animals. They give you an unconditional love that you can’t get anywhere else. My two dogs give me more joy and love day in and day out than anybody else.  No I’m not saying they’re more important than my daughter or my parents,my dad, sister, my family, but at any given moment they’re always by my side if I’m home when none of the other family members are.  If I go out there the first one is coming to greet me at the door. I love my daughter but she’s not getting off her ass to come greet me lets be real.  OK I have to be honest here and say the English Bulldog sometimes doesn’t get up he’s a little bit of a couch potato but if I was gone for a little bit he’d definitely be getting up to say hello.  My little French bulldog sleeps next to me on the couch almost the entire day. He’s so cute and it just brings me such comfort that he’s there. Yesterday I had such a tough day and they just make me smile looking into their faces.  They are so innocent there is no malicious of any kind in them. All they want is to be loved and all they want to do is love you. Tell me where else did you get that? I can’t think of one thing in this world that is truly unconditional love other than a pet.  When I wake up in the morning my little French bulldog wakes up too, because he doesn’t like to be without me, and he comes padding out and looks at me with this sweet little tired face and it instantly makes my morning.  Such a simple gift and thinking about it just warms my heart.   My dogs won’t cure my MS but they certainly make it a little more dealable when I’m resting at home because they’re here keeping me company.

  1. Hi Jamie!
Just ran across you blog – seems we have some things in common (MS, divorce, Single momma) I think we have connected before but I just noticed that I don’t have your blog on my insanely long MS Resources page. Ok if I add? http://www.bbhwithms.com/resources-all-things-ms/
I look forward to reading more….and my dogs are frequently one of my number one distractions/supporters:)

    Cheers,
    Meg (aka BBH)

    1. I’d love to be added to your resources page. I got to check that out myself. I bought B12 gummies because of your blog the other day. You were the third person in one day who either asked me if I was taking it or said I should be taking it. Lol. From one Single, MS dog lover to another happy to have another blogger friend.

      1. YEAH!!! Thanks! Enjoy the gummies. Often have to remind myself that I can’t just scarf down a bunch (like candy:) Don’t know if you saw my post about divorce, but seems we have both also found a better place;) http://www.bbhwithms.com/disease-divorce-ms-end-marriage/

Will add to list today! If you know of any other resources (especially blogs as that is what is most near and dear to my heart) please let me know. Trying to keep it as a work in progress and aim to add a few new each week:)

        Cheers!
        Meg
