Heat and humidity causing such fatigue

Heat and humidity causing such fatigue

It was hot, humid and hazy yesterday in NY. I stayed in the AC the entire day. It didn’t matter, the heat and humidity still found its way into my bones. I had a very tough day. I normally do a 45 minute workout on Sundays but only finished 30. I had to use the bathroom. That was an unsuccessful event. Bad footing caused me to slide down to the floor. Once I was there, I knew I was in…

My Saturday morning ritual

My Saturday morning ritual

It seems like I’m gonna have a new ritual on Saturdays: work out then put on F1 practice runs while blogging. I am so happy I got my money back from the F1 TV pro upgrade because this dope over here gets all the races on ESPN either live or on demand anyway. I could just watch my F2 races at some other point during the week with my basic F1 TV plan. I like to see the up and…

I’m getting hot

I’m getting hot

It’s getting hot outside. The summer is coming and my hibernation will begin. Most people can’t wait for the nice weather and the glorious heat of the summer, I’m not that person. I have multiple sclerosis and I am heat intolerant. Heat or high humidity can make many people with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience a temporary worsening of their symptoms. Doctors believe that this occurs because heat causes nerves (whose myelin covering has been destroyed from MS) to conduct electrical signals even less efficiently….

And so it begins…heat and MS

And so it begins…heat and MS

There is no winning when it comes to temperatures anymore for me. I can’t handle the extreme cold and I can’t handle the extreme heat. It’s exactly 8:22 as I am writing my blog today and I have all my windows open. Currently the temperature is 65° out going up to 73°. my temperature in my house is showing 70°. That’s a little on the warm side, we’ll see what happens as the day progresses. Where I am sure I…

Partly sunny humid Florida

Partly sunny humid Florida

It’s a little warm in Florida. Great for most people, not so much for this MS patient. I purposely come down in January or early February because the weather is great. 70 something by day 60 something by night. Not this trip. It’s 80 degrees and a little humid down here. At night it’s a cooling 78. I realized no way could I do my Beachbody exercise program. The house is too hot and outside is too hot. I said…

tips for dealing with the heat with MS

tips for dealing with the heat with MS

I’m hibernating for the summer. For most people with MS heat is very difficult. It causes fatigue and muscle weakness, spasms and it basically exacerbates all your current symptoms. They make a cooling vest but let me explain what this thing is. First it’s a vest that comes up to your waist so if closed will nicely accentuate your hips not very flattering. Second it’s this light brown/tan color that is just plain ugly. Third the vest has something like…

Forks over Knives Watermelon Basil Ice

Forks over Knives Watermelon Basil Ice

Good morning. Summer is coming and I thought it’s time to put out summer recipes. Having MS, by eating something cold, it helps keep my body from overheating. I also am a big fan of frozen grapes in the summer. Just put the grapes in the freezer and enjoy. The middle becomes like an ice or slushy. This recipe below is simple, quick and refreshing.  I got this recipe from Forks Over Knives. Watermelon Basil Ice Ingredients 6 cups fresh…

Bears hibernate in the winter, MS patients hibernate in the summer

Bears hibernate in the winter, MS patients hibernate in the summer

Got a wake up call the other day. We went from a comfortable 60° in New York up to  82° overnight.  Silly me, didn’t think anything of it and opened all the windows.  I have roughly 7 windows in my apartment that I opened, well I should say my daughter before she left.  Normally there’s a nice cross breeze in my apartment, but that takes wind. I live upstairs, heat rises, no wind, so no cross breeze and by 2:00 it…
