Always Fighting

Always Fighting

Some days are better than others. I walked the hallway again yesterday and it was so hard. Ok, it was hard the first time I did it but it was so much harder yesterday. My right leg, which is normally the leg that gives less issues, was very difficult to move. It was difficult from the hip flexor. I had problems moving the leg forward. My left leg, which normally drags, has difficulty clearing a step without my foot impeding…

My goals will be reached

My goals will be reached

I had a good week. I shared my video of me walking in Wednesday. I walked even more during my PT session on Wednesday afternoon. I guess it wasn’t a video fluke of a good MS day. I am actually strong enough to take those few steps. I still can’t get up from my comfy chair but I certainly have hope. I even hit another milestone this week. I had my hair straighten. I had to sit up in my…

Shocking to everyone including me

Shocking to everyone including me

I was sitting up at the end of the bed when he got there. I popped right up to stand. My PT therapist said try to take a step. I was standing up with one of those silver walkers. Well, I took a step. It was my first step since the end of December. I then took another and another. I was going forward and back in the small space of my room. I was getting tripped up having to…

A lump in the bed

A lump in the bed

My life has changed a lot in the past few months. I went from independent to completely dependent. I can’t do the simplest of things anymore. I can’t just get in my wheelchair and open the refrigerator for my ice coffee. I can’t just grab a sweatshirt from my closet. Hell I can’t even fix my sock when it gets turned around on my foot. A very big pet peeve of mine. I was limited in my dependence prior to…

Friday is here again

Friday is here again

I am playing mahjong today for the first time since the coronavirus. I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to play but I am hoping I can sit for 2 hours at least. Unfortunately my wheelchair cripples me more than I’m already crippled. It’s the muscles in my core (a reader of my blog explained this to me). I’m reclined in my comfy chair, not putting strain on my muscles. In the wheelchair, I am sitting up. There is…

Walking again

Walking again

I did good this week, despite the heat. I walked the hallway in my first real Physical therapy session on Thursday. I love the upright walker. It has made such a difference for keeping me straight when I walk. I do walk slowly. I am paying very close attention to my hips moving and my feet picking up. I do what Trevor, in the MS Gym, calls pause walking. I take my step, PAUSE, regain balance and alignment and take…

PT like it or not…

PT like it or not…

This might be brief. I just got home from my double therapy sessions. I am wiped out as expected. OT was challenging and PT was hard as expected. I can’t say I dislike my new PT therapist she knows what she is doing but makes me work. She is more focused on my exercises, all of them. Today she had me doing the leg press from the chair. I’ve done this a million times in therapy and found it to…

Physical therapy, physically exhausting

Physical therapy, physically exhausting

I had my first physical therapy appointment of the year yesterday after my occupational therapy. I knew I’d be exhausted after but I completely underestimated how exhausted I’d actually be. It took me hours to be able to move out of my chair when I got home. Hours!!!! I’m working with a new therapist. She is very nice but she is going to be tough. No different then the other girls I’ve worked with but the difference is she is…
