Let’s talk about SEX and multiple sclerosis

Let’s talk about SEX and multiple sclerosis

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Sexual problems are often experienced by people with MS, but they are very common in the general population as well. Sexual arousal begins in the central nervous system, as the brain sends messages to the sexual organs along nerves running through the spinal cord. If MS damages these nerve pathways, sexual response — including arousal and orgasm — can be directly affected. Sexual problems also stem from MS symptoms such as fatigue or…

Bladder issues with multiple sclerosis

Bladder issues with multiple sclerosis

I’ve blogged on this issue before but I wanted to revisit it again. I HAVE BLADDER ISSUES. I can have both hesitancy and incontinence. However my incontinence is more that I get the feeling I have to go to the bathroom and have a very short amount of time to get there.  What happens, and this I’ll never understand, is as I get closer to the bathroom that’s when my bladder starts to release, thus the accident. I wanted to…

Sometimes you can not hate your MS

Sometimes you can not hate your MS

I don’t know if I can go so far as to say I am thankful for my MS, but I know I could say I’m thankful for the good days. I know I could say I’m thankful that I don’t have the symptoms of the pain.  I give a lot of credit to those out there that suffer from chronic pain. That is the one symptom I really don’t know if I can deal with 24/7. So for all my…

Multiple sclerosis in Yoda’s words

Multiple sclerosis in Yoda’s words

Star Wars, The a Empire Strikes Back. My favorite of the original trilogy movies. Why? It’s the struggle the dark side the bleak unknown of the outcome. It has hope though as Luke and Leia watch Lando Calrissiam fly away in the Millennium Falcon in search of Han Solo. When it came out in what 1980 never thought that certain lines would play in my head when relative to having multiple sclerosis. This line Yoda says does. It’s because I…

Understanding the daily struggle with multiple sclerosis

Understanding the daily struggle with multiple sclerosis

First let me start off by saying this is at my stage of the disease and my stage of the progression. It is not everybody’s MS path nor is it where you will surely be if your newly diagnosed. Everybody’s multiple sclerosis is different. On Valentine’s Day weekend in 2017 it will be 19 years I’ve had MS. It’s been a long time. I could be 1000 times worse and even though I struggle every single day, understand that I…

Saturday morning multiple sclerosis week in review

Saturday morning multiple sclerosis week in review

Good morning. I first have to say what a beautiful day in New York. The sun is bright shining into my house spreading love and happiness throughout. Yesterday my daughter received an email from Lynn University that she was accepted to the college with a Dean’s scholarship. It was so exciting for everyone in my family but it was also so reassuring for her. This college is in Florida and it would be my first choice for her. It is…

A life with disabilities-my daughter’s college essay

A life with disabilities-my daughter’s college essay

My mother tells the story of when I was two and she walked into Tutor Time. The door opened and every child’s head turned but mine. That led to the diagnosis that would affect my entire life. We found out I had a progressive hearing loss called EVA (enlarged vestibular aqueduct) and when my mother walked through that door, I had already lost all the high frequencies in my hearing. I received the first of two surgeries for my cochlear…

My four walls of multiple sclerosis

I always wondered what is going on in boomers mind when he looks outside.  Boomer doesn’t get up and go outside easily you have to convince him so what is he thinking when he gazes? As my MS has become worse I tend to stay home more…
