Giving names to my assistive devices

Giving names to my assistive devices

I’m happy to report I have had no strange incidents with my wheelchair, Houdini, this week. My wheelchair might be trying to kill me. However it is only Wednesday and I’m hoping I haven’t spoken too soon. I name all my things: cars, assistive devices, even the TV (although that name was lifted from an episode of Friends). My first rollator name was JJ Walker, the character that said “Dynamite” on Good Times. It was a very heavy sturdy walker…

Service Dogs

Service Dogs

Meet Hubert He is the Service dog of a woman, Andrea, who participates in therapy every week. She is a lovely woman but her dog, he is amazing. Nothing makes me happier than seeing him. Unlike most Service dogs, Andrea lets him get pet while wearing his hair vest. He gets a lot of love from everyone, especially from me. I conquer occupational, physical and pet therapy all in one day. It was because of this dog I wanted to…

My wheelchair might be trying to kill me

My wheelchair might be trying to kill me

I’m starting to think my wheelchair might be trying to kill me. I feel like the movie Christine by Stephen King except it’s me that is the target. On Saturday once again I got ran over by my wheelchair. I ran myself over with my wheelchair. This time my shirt got caught on the controls again but as it knocked me over it also pinned me up against my balcony door. Since my shirt was caught the wheelchair was still…

Pajama Day for me

Pajama Day for me

It is a gray day here. Windy and rainy. I am in my pajamas and planning on staying this way for the remainder of the day. It has been a rough week for me. I ran myself over with my wheelchair No joke, I’ve fallen again Besides my falls, I have literally scratched up every single wall in my house. I guess in my exhaustion, keeping the wheelchair straight also wasn’t one of my strongest abilities. I am physically spent….

No joke, I’ve fallen again

No joke, I’ve fallen again

Omg it happened again yesterday where I fell to the floor but this time it wasn’t so comical. I was beyond exhausted coming home from mahjong. It even took me a couple of minutes to get from my wheelchair to the drivers seat. Driving isn’t an issue for me because the muscles required for that weren’t the muscles that were the cause of exhaustion. I know my dad is reading this and he neither understands that or feels comfortable with…

I ran myself over with my wheelchair

I ran myself over with my wheelchair

It happened again, I ended up on the floor and couldn’t get up. However how it happened was slightly comical. I ran myself over with the wheelchair. My sweatshirt got caught on the control as I was making my transfer to my chair. I got knocked over with my arm still attached to the chair. If it was on video, trust me we’d all have a laugh. This is why they always tell you to shut off the wheelchair when…

Maybe it isn’t MS

Maybe it isn’t MS

I’m putting on my MD hat today and I’m diagnosing myself. I think my bizarre toe MS symptom isn’t MS at all. Annoying MS symptoms strike again I think it may be gout. I’ve had this weird symptom for a couple of years now and it never dawned on me until yesterday that it was anything other than MS. I was getting my hair done with my mom, (which came out fabulous I might add), telling her about my crazy…

Annoying MS symptoms strike again

Annoying MS symptoms strike again

Ugh my toe hurts. That strange MS symptom that comes once in a while for no reason. It just started hurting in the middle of the night. Same thing always right foot, big toe. Didn’t hurt when I put a shoe on but it is now a dull throbbing with my shoe off and feet elevated, just like when I’m in bed. It actually feels better when I bend it. So annoying. Such a strange symptom too. Just nerves misfiring…

Safe transfer from my wheelchair

Safe transfer from my wheelchair

Yesterday was the first time I actually went from my wheelchair directly into my bed. My daughter left to go back to school and I am once again alone in the house. I must say the realization of that fact became very clear when I realized how fatigued my legs were. I did a long workout program in the morning because I felt up to the challenge. I always do my hardest program on Sunday because I’m home all day,…

Do I continue to blog?

Do I continue to blog?

I woke up this morning and for the first time I questioned my blog. My stats have fallen off lately and I have just questioned is it worth it still? This July my domain name, multiple experiences, will be up for another two year renewal and let me tell you, it’s not cheap. Then add in the hosting platform and security and WordPress, things add up fast. I wouldn’t, couldn’t, write my blog giving up my domain name stepping down…
