Spiritual session Saturday-I am not a body I am free
This is a favorite one of mine in A Course of Miracles. To me if you can truly reach this stage, you are truly enlightened and free. The Course says: https://acim.org/workbook/lesson-199/
Freedom must be impossible as long as you perceive a body as yourself. The body is a limit. Who would seek for freedom in a body looks for it where it can not be found. The mind can be made free when it no longer sees itself as in a body, firmly tied to it and sheltered by its presence. If this were the truth, the mind were vulnerable indeed!
The Course views the body as a vehicle to do the Spiritual work. To bestow love and forgiveness on the world by freeing the mind from the body. To best explain why I found this excerpt that was a great explanation. https://www.emofree.com/nl/answers/garythink-articles/i-am-not-a-body-i-am-free.html?Itemid=0
Without bodies there would be no physical needs and thus things like hunger, disease, trauma and death would have no meaning. Without bodies every business on the face of the earth would have no customers and money would be useless. Without bodies there would be no politicians and no governments. Indeed, there would be nothing to govern. Without bodies there would be no impediment to the awareness of Love’s presence because all concerns about the individual self would vanish. This leaves only Love. What else would there be? What else would you truly want?
This thought may sound extreme but the idea is useful. We attach ourselves to our bodies to achieve all these things. We even attach ourselves to our bodies in illness and certainly death.
Almost everything we do or think involves the body in some way. Check out your thoughts. Don’t they shift from finances to prestige to survival and ricochet endlessly amongst everything in between? And don’t most of these have to do with your body’s comfort or well being in some way?
This is the exactly what the course is trying to teach us. Our mind and thoughts are always link to something that results in the bodies outcome. We think we are a body as opposed to thinking we are a spirit. A spirit that isn’t limited to a body and without that limitation we can do so much more than we ever imagined.
Every time I get to this lesson, it always brings me back to my first meditation when I was 10 years old. The reason I believe this so strongly that I am not a body and I am free, was in that meditation I literally felt myself above my body and floating. I’ve never experienced it again but I’ve never forgotten it. I know it is true and that is why I study everyday for my spiritual enlightenment I know I am more than a body.
