Time for handicap plates on my van

Time for handicap plates on my van

I’ve been wanting to get handicap plates on my van since I purchased the vehicle. There was a whole thing with the plates because I purchased the van in New Jersey and I live in New York. At that time I would’ve had to surrender the plates and re-register after I just paid the NYS 2 year registration fee. New York State isn’t very good at giving you money back and prorating so I just stuck with my handicap tag….

Thank you for my Van

Thank you for my Van

I can’t imagine my life without this van. It was time to be in a wheelchair and I didn’t have the means to accomplish this. It took a long time and help from so many people. I still can’t thank them enough. I have a life again and I can go places without everyone worrying; how will I get in, will I be able to get there, will it be too much etc. This van wasn’t only great for me,…

Bubba my van had a flat

Bubba my van had a flat

I want to thank my neighbors in my condo. I had a flat on my back rear passenger side tire. Someone noticed it and called the security booth for them to contact me. Since it was already dark I didn’t go downstairs to look at it but I asked my daughter to check it out when she came home. She confirmed it was really flat. Great. Luckily I bought on Amazon a cordless air pump for my wheelchair tires months…

My handicap van, not just for me

My handicap van, not just for me

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I wasn’t able to share Mother’s Day with my daughter but I was able to share the day with my mom and stepdad. The food was fair but the company was great. We were seated at this huge table for three people and we all moved our chairs to one side to be near each other, that love. It was the first time we took my van together. My stepdad drove, my mom…

An end to a stressful week

An end to a stressful week

Today my van is getting delivered back to me. It seems that the circuit breakers under the floor were water logged. I can’t explain how but the switches needed to be replaced. They kept the car for an extra day testing everything out and hopefully this won’t be a problem again. I am doing my Rituxan infusion later this evening but I am doing at home. That makes a five plus hour infusion so much better. I get to be…

My handicap van ramp isn’t working

My handicap van ramp isn’t working

I can’t make this sh@t up. I go to my car yesterday and press the button and the door opens and ramp comes down as normal. I go into my van and press the button to close and my ramp goes in but the door doesn’t shut. So I try to press the button again and now the ramp won’t come out. Well after several attempts of pushing each of the five buttons that operate the door/ramp my aid and…

My first outing alone

My first outing alone

I received a call early in the morning that my aid’s son was sick she wouldn’t be making it to me for the day. However, yesterday was mahjong and I wanted to go. This is why I got a handicap van for my independence, right? So I decided I was going to go. I was more worried about getting out of my house without my dogs running out the door on me. I decided to be very proactive. My word…

Out and about in my handicap van

Out and about in my handicap van

Well the 8 month journey to purchase my van was really worth the experience I had yesterday. To be able to press a button that opens a door, sends down a ramp that I can just wheel myself into is more liberating than I even expected. What makes this even better is I am finally able to use my main wheelchair which is a Hoveround MP5 . Using the travel scooter for many years was convenient. It broke down and…

Goodbye Bob hello Bubba

Goodbye Bob hello Bubba

It was official on Friday that Bob my Honda Civic was turned back in to the dealership. I name all my cars and my last one was simply Bob. My first black car since the one I got and totaled the day after I got my drivers license. My dad had a thing with black cars. He felt that they were for funerals and was very against it when I choose black for the color of my first car when…
