Neurologist visits

I have to say this cold has kicked the shit out of me. I know taking Rituxan lowers my immune system but I honestly very rarely get sick. Even my issues in 2022 I was on Kesimpta, not Rituxan. The last cold I had was back in 2019 when I went on my last vacation. I went to Mexico with my family. I had the worst cold. I was miserable for the first 4 days of the week’s vacation. I…

Another fall to face the truth

Another fall to face the truth

Well another episode started off an otherwise lovely evening. My mom and stepdad were coming over for dinner and to watch Yellowstone. We missed last week’s episode so we were in for a double feature. It was just about 4:00 when I hung up with my mother. I was getting up to feed my puppies. I didn’t transfer to my wheelchair well. I ended up sliding down to the floor. When I got up I would have taken the increase…

My neurologist visit

My neurologist visit

Well yesterday was a visit to my neurologist. I want to thank my pseudo uncle for driving my van. I am not so comfortable driving on the parkways anymore. My first words to my neurologist were “did you miss me?” I have been coming to see him for almost 24 years. I just turned 50, that is almost 1/2 my life. He has been on my multiple sclerosis journey from day 1. He was the neurologist that told me I…

A trip to the gastroenterologist

A trip to the gastroenterologist

I made it through this week. It was difficult at times but I stand by my decision to not bring in a substitute aide. I did have my regular aide in for the day yesterday because I had a doctor appointment. She was so helpful that she made herself available to be here during her vacation. I didn’t even ask her, she offered immediately when she realized I had an appointment. I went to the gastroenterologist. Always dealing with the…

Neurologist retirement

Neurologist retirement

My neurologist has joined one of the big group hospital networks as most of the doctors on Long Island are forced to do. I’ve been with him for 23 years. Everyone in his office knew me. It was originally his first wife, who unfortunately passed away, and another secretary. They added an additional bookkeeper when his wife got sick about 15 years ago. It has been the same staff all these years. I could call up and say hi it’s…

Just a Wednesday

Just a Wednesday

Is it really Wednesday already? This week seems to be flying by. I received my Covid test results this morning and I was negative as I expected. My county passed down new protocols for someone that was vaccinated. If they come into contact with a person who tested positive for Covid they don’t need to either quarantine or test providing they are asymptomatic. The Covid tracer people are still tracking me daily. I don’t know what to follow so I’m…

Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

For my wheelchair evaluation, I’m going out…my wheelchair evaluation my neurologist needed to submit a letter of need. Due to the coronavirus, we did this via teleconference the second week of April. He’s been my neurologist for 22 years. He has files upon files upon files on May. We laugh, actually, at how many times my files have been thinned and moved to storage. My file still always remain as thick as medical encyclopedia. I explain this so you know…

Teleconference neurologist appointment

Teleconference neurologist appointment

I have my neurologist appointment this morning. My second neurologist appointment admits the coronavirus isolation. Once again this will be a teleconference appointment as was my other one. I’m thankful that both my doctors know me so well. What would this be like if I was a new patient or something? I can’t imagine. This appointment was always scheduled as a checkup but now it is also serving as my wheelchair evaluation. I need to be seen by my doctor,…

But it isn’t even 11am…

I was so happy to have nothing to do today. This week has been long already. However within the first hour of waking I realized things weren’t going to be as smooth as I would have liked. It started with a notification from Quest Labs. That is just one of the labs out here I do bloodwork at. Since my last bloodwork was done with my doctor on Tuesday at LabCorp I was curious what this was. It was on…

Neurologist check in tomorrow

Neurologist check in tomorrow

I have one of my neurologist appointments tomorrow. I have two neurologists. One is the specialist in NYC at one of the big hospitals. She prescribes my main MS drug, currently Rituxan, plus recommends anything in clinical trials like biotin or statins. She’s a great neurologist but I don’t consider her my main neurologist. That is the one I have the appointment with tomorrow. This is the neurologist that diagnosed me 21+ years ago and has been my doctor the…
