Intermittent fasting 5:2

Intermittent fasting 5:2

I’ve been doing intermittent fasting at a 16:8 schedule for over a year now. What does that mean? It means I eat between in an 8 hour time frame and fast for a 16 hour time frame. For me I ate between the hours of 11-7. The rest of the time I ate nothing and consumed only water.

I finished the book the obesity code The Obesity Code this weekend. I must say I learned something new about dieting from this book. That is saying a lot since I have been on a diet since I was 10. The book talks a lot about how insulin is a major factor in weight gain. Where the do’s and don’t’s of what to eat weren’t shocking, there was an entire sectioning on fasting. Since I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for a year and the book talks about doing a 24 or 36 hour fast, I figured why not try the change. After i eat dinner on my non-fast day I don’t eat again until dinner the next day (roughly 24 hours later) of my fast day. A 36 hour fast would be not eating on your fast day at all until breakfast the following day.

I don’t think I’m ready for the 36 hour fast yet but I did my first 24 hour fast. I consumed a total of about 500 calories for my dinner which is the amount suggested in a fast day. I did have coffee that had half n half in it though the day. That was the only thing consumed other than water until dinner. I didn’t have any issue getting through the day. Today is a non fast day and my calories actually go up. I’m allowed to consume more than a 1200 calorie count.

I think I figured out I have been on the right track just needed minor tweaking. I’m going to try this new intermittent fasting schedule as well as some changes to my diet. There are many ways to do intermittent fasting and it becomes very easy after the first few weeks.
