Dysphagia and Multiple Sclerosis

Dysphagia and Multiple Sclerosis

Dysphagia simply put is difficulty swallowing. It means it takes more time for food to travel from your mouth to your stomach. Why this affects people with multiple sclerosis? Muscle weakness once again. The good news is it is seen more in advance stages of the disease but it still can appear at any time. It can be mild or advanced. Hey, it’s MS. It has no set plan of attack. According to WebMD https://www.webmd.com/multiple-sclerosis/speech-swallowing Symptoms of a Swallowing Problem…

Back home

Back home

I realized something being away, my home is definitely the easiest place for me. I love my sisters house it is absolutely beautiful. It’s very easy for me to get around on the first floor. However, there is no bathroom with a shower. They made a shower outside which is really cool but it’s a little more difficult for me to get to. It’s difficult for me to navigate her outside property. The outside property is so amazing but getting…

My optic neuritis story

My optic neuritis story

My first unofficial MS relapse was optic neuritis in 1997. Six months before my diagnosis. The optic neuritis wasn’t even diagnosed at the time of the relapse it was realized after my diagnosis. I was working in a fast food restaurant as an assistant manager, who was about to be promoted. However, my manager at my current location and I didn’t always see eye to eye. She added a lot of stress to my situation at work. I couldn’t wait…

My childhood home

My childhood home

It can be so hard sometimes. Each step more laborious than the last. My step dad has a SUV and getting in and out of the car is an ordeal every time. But what upsets me the most is going to my mom and step dads house. The house I grew up in is so difficult now for me to get into. There is a deck on the outside of the front of the house. When it was redone, they…

A win is a win

A win is a win

I swam 25 laps. Yippee!! I drank water before and during my swimming. I had little aches but they didn’t last long and weren’t severe at all. This was the first time I was able to do 25 laps in weeks. It is silly but I’m very excited. It’s the small things with MS. No matter how small a win is I’ve learned to appreciate the win. I’ve dealt with MS for 20 years. I spent most of those years…

Achy while swimming continued

Achy while swimming continued

Continuing on with my original post I wrote the other day https://multipleexperiences.org/2018/08/15/flu-like-symptoms-while-im-swimming/. I had one comment from another person with MS. She explained that any time she over exerted herself she had flulike symptoms as well. Thank you Priscilla for your comment. She even said if she continued overexert herself she can actually come down with the flu. I asked her what drug she was on for MS, if any, and she was taking Rituxan. I am currently on Ocrevus…

Flu-like symptoms while I’m swimming

Flu-like symptoms while I’m swimming

Wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have strange things occurring. I googled this and it is actually not uncommon but most people have it after they exercise, not during. I’ve been having it as I swim. This is part of the reason I’m barely making 20 laps when I was doing 25 before. I would say it starts as I am going into lap 11 or 12. I start to feel achy. I feel like when I was taking Betaseron…

Oops I did it again

Oops I did it again

I am so run down again and I don’t even know what I did. Of course I do, it was the stress of the parking space that I’ve dealt with for the last week https://multipleexperiences.org/2018/08/08/he-called-me-a-bad-name/. Ever since I stopped working, I have very little stress in my life. Aggravation, yes with my insurance company I deal with that all the time. For some reason every now and then I get into some sort of stress situation my body just can’t…

A MS anger post

A MS anger post

If you follow my blog you know I’m normally positive. I don’t have the energy to be positive right now. I am so tired of being 46 and having to have somebody cut my food. If I make some sort of protein for dinner, like steak which I recently started eating, my aid has to cut it before she leaves. I could barely even cut chicken. I can barely use one of my stainless steel silverware and usually opt for…

Running on empty

Running on empty

Man I am beat. I am so tired and I’ve really done nothing but what I’ve done is enough to exhaust me. July has certainly has been a very tough month for me. It started out with my insurance changing to Medicare. Goodbye referrals!!! However, I also had many doctors appointments appointment scheduled because of it. Then I ended up with cellulitis at the beginning of July. July 9 actually was my first trip to the emergency room. I know…
