A day in the life with multiple sclerosis.
Neurologist check in tomorrow

Neurologist check in tomorrow

I have one of my neurologist appointments tomorrow. I have two neurologists. One is the specialist in NYC at one of the big hospitals. She prescribes my main MS drug, currently Rituxan, plus recommends anything in clinical trials like biotin or statins. She’s a great neurologist but I don’t consider her my main neurologist. That is the one I have the appointment with tomorrow. This is the neurologist that diagnosed me 21+ years ago and has been my doctor the…

Wrong season to try to date

Wrong season to try to date

Summer is a great season. It’s many people’s favorite. Being outside at the beach, on a boat, or at a pool basking under the sun’s warmth. However when you have multiple sclerosis, or any neurological disease, chances are it is not. As that temperature rises outside all of the MS symptoms act up making it a difficult season. This is called the Uhthoff Phenomenon. Uhthoff’s phenomenon (also known as Uhthoff’s syndrome, Uhthoff’s sign, and Uhthoff’s symptom) is the worsening of neurologic symptoms in multiple sclerosis (MS) and…

Fireworks 2019

Fireworks 2019

So how were the fireworks? How did your dogs do? I gave my dogs treats with cbd oil in them from my vet. Not sure if it helped but they liked the cookie itself. My Zoey was fine it was Marshy, he was howling. I sat with both of them on my balcony while I watched the fireworks keeping the windows closed. It was still loud. He was calmer with me there. At least I think he was. I may…

9 ways to hopefully help your dog stay calm during fireworks

9 ways to hopefully help your dog stay calm during fireworks

Happy 4th of July to everyone. This is a repeat post on dogs and fireworks. In memory of my dog, Boomer, who passed away a few years ago. He hated this holiday and I always wanted to stay near him because of his reaction to the noise.  My 70lb English Bulldog would jump in my lap, cowering, crying and shaking. Some years we even tried to give him treats or meds that would calm him down, nothing worked. Now it…

Hot Flash Symptoms and Multiple Sclerosis

Hot Flash Symptoms and Multiple Sclerosis

I had physical therapy in the morning. I didn’t do everyone of my exercises but I did all of my hard ones. My therapist and I cut it short because I actually started overheating. My cheeks turn red is my first sign. I start becoming warm even though I may or may not be doing much and then I start sweating. With that my MS symptoms get worse. This is why I rarely wear blush on my cheeks because I’d…

What I’m looking for on Plenty of Fish

What I’m looking for on Plenty of Fish

So far nothing else is happening on plenty of fish. I must say that I was completely turned off by my first encounter First POF date that I certainly haven’t put much effort into the site. I’ve exchanged some emails with a few men but nothing to write about in a blog post. One guy keeps texting me because I made the error of giving him my cell however after he wrote this message Open your loving heart to me…

Chicken and Grapes for Shabbat dinner

Chicken and Grapes for Shabbat dinner

In honor of my daughter’s trip to Israel, I made my first Shabbat dinner last night. My guest list was my mom, stepdad, daughter and her boyfriend. In all honesty it is a tradition I’d like to start to have my daughter and her boyfriend for a night. This way we can all sit down together and have a meal and just talk as a family. I made chicken and grapes recipe below, cauliflower gnocchi that I bought from Trader…

Falling again all week

Falling again all week

I’ve been really good lately. Especially since I switched to my wheelchair outside my condo. I went from falling almost daily to a couple of times in a month. That’s a big difference. It goes to show you how much the walking was really causing me to just exhausted myself. Yes I needed the van to make my life easier but I also needed to admit to myself the time has come and I really couldn’t walk anymore. It was…

Fatigue is never easy

Fatigue is never easy

The heat, the heat is here and it is not making life an easier. I played mahjong and I could barely hold myself upright by the end of the game and I was in AC. The heat finds it way into your bones and still manages to fatigue you regardless of where you are. I came home and collapsed. I was in bed by 9 and slept through the night until 4. I’m exhausted still. I sleep I’m exhausted, I…
